It has been ruled today, by the Greek Courts that the Greek Tourist Board acted incorrectly in deciding to close down the LCH for the 2007 season. The owners of the hotel group responded to this by going to court, and have won a turn around on the GNTOs decision to close.
The LCH has had a complete refurbishment, which resulted in all the Gas Boilers being removed from the accommodations, and replaced with Electric Heating systems. These are now being tested by a number of Greek authorities.
This is good news as Gouvia has a lot to offer all visitors, and to have closed the LCH for a whole season would have had devistating results on Gouvia, and in someways Corfu.
Lets hope that lessons have been learnt from this very sad tragedy, and that all owners, tour operators carry out checks with regular frequency to ensure that all standards are met.
I absolutely agree Becky. It was a very sad thing at the time, but having watched the progress and changes after this, I can without doubt recommend the Louis Corcyra from the reviews I have read. Great news.
Time certainly comes round quick when you are waiting for something exciting as your visit to Corfu. Here is hoping you all have a great time, and we on the forum look forward to reading all about it on your return, and seeing the pictures. Have a great holiday.
I have not stayed there myself, but having stayed a number of times in Kontokali and Gouvia, I have visited the Louis Corcyra for other reasons, and have found it to be a very pleasant and friendly accommodation. I am sure you will have a great time on your holiday. Gouvia itself is a wonderful place with lots to do from the young to the old. Lots of very good Tavernas, Bars and Restaurants, nestled in with a few night clubs. If you need anymore information for your holiday, on Gouvia, please let us know.
