Gouvia very quite this year June 2011

Post by Heli Terry » Wed Jun 29, 2011 8:04 pm

Having just come back from my usual jaunt to Gouvia in June, I am sadened to see that it is even more quite than the same time last year.
It was disturbing to see so many shops / cafes now permanantly closed down. The locals were telling me that it was a bad year last year but this year it is even worse. On of the things that seemed to be putting a dampner on things was the introduction of the all inclusive deal at the 600 bed Hotel at the far end of the town.

Had a drive up to Dassia and Sidari and it was just as much the same, you could park where ever you wanted. I can remember the days when you had to scramble for a parking place. It seems strange that all of the locals I spoke to, wanted Greece to go bankrupt because as it stands now things cant get any worse!

I will be returning in September fo another couple of weeks at the RC Hotel in Poulades, I hope that this summer is not going to be another nail in the coffin for my favorite Island.

I must admit 'all inclusive' just doesnt do it for me. Never been 'all inclusive' and prob never will. I like to try different tavernas and meet the locals. I just hope it all pans out ok for Greece and its islands.

I find by visiting different tavernas it makes the holiday! Each one has its own unique way with its patrons. Each one is completely different in its own charming way. I like the way you can saunter around the kitchen to see whats cooking. I like the fact that its all fresh and cooked to perfection. We dont seem to gain any weight whilst on holiday perhaps its because we swim at least three hours every day and we walk everywhere. This year we would like to hire bicycles just to make a change, also a days boat hire would be good too. I will have to find out how to download my pocket video camera (waterproof to 3 metres) for our under water shots.
